What one can readily sense in each of the readings for this Pentecost Sunday is the transformative effects of the Spirit-presence on individuals and the assembled church. It is a pure gift given by God. A new beginning! Fear gives way to faith, timidity to bold proclamation, individualism to community, and the world is thus recreated by God’s Spirit. There is something gentle and imperceptible accompanying this upwelling!
